Latin cuisine is one of America’s hottest food trends. But how can we best enjoy the layers of flavor and exotic tastes in both classic and modern Latin Dishes?
Celebrity Chef Lorena Garcia says the key is to refine and protect the palate. Lorena, author of Lorena Garcia’s New Latin Classics, joined The Rhode Show to explain how we can refine and protect our palate, taste foods like a chef and better enjoy the exotic flavors in their favorite Latin dishes.
Lorena’s tips include:
- Avoid drinking sugary drinks that dull your taste buds before you bite.
- Cleanse your palate between courses so that it is neutral for the next taste. Sucking on a lemon wedge or taking a bite of a bread stick or taking a few sips of sparkling water also works as a palate cleanser.
- Challenge yourself: Keep a couple of spice jars on my counter with the labels obscured. Every now and then pick one up, stick my nose in it, and see if I can identify it. This can also be done as a game with the entire family; having everyone take turns identifying herbs such as basil, cilantro, and parsley with a blindfold.
- Maintain a healthy mouth: If you don’t have to brush during the day use a mouthwash like Colgate Total Mouthwash – it gives germ protection and keeps fighting for up to 12 hours, even after eating and drinking.
