JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island State Police executed a search warrant at a Johnston home as part of a child pornography investigation and wound up discovering a sophisticated marijuana-growing operation.
Col. Steven O’Donnell announced Friday the arrest of Vincent D’Errico, 54, of 6 Fox Meadow Road, on drug and firearms charges.
An undercover operation by the Rhode Island State Police Computer Crimes Unit/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force to identify subjects sharing illegal images of child online led police to D’Errico’s home, according to Col. O’Donnell.
The High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force also took part in the arrest.
Police seized 25 mature marijuana plants, 9 ounces of usable marijuana, marijuana packaging equipment, a digital scale, $16,200 cash, and fifteen assorted firearms including ten rifles, three handguns, and two shotguns from the residence.
O’Donnell said assorted digital media was also seized, which will now be analyzed as part of the child pornography investigation.
D’Errico informed police he’s a medical marijuana cardholder, but O’Donnell said cardholders are only allowed to possess 12 mature plants and 2.5 ounces of usable marijuana.
D’Errico was arraigned in Third Division District Court on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm while committing a controlled substance violation, and possession of a firearm while committing a crime of violence. He was ordered held until a bail review on May 29.
