NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) – Police have identified the driver who lost her life in a single-car accident late Tuesday morning.
Elaine Beretta, 66, of Glendale, passed away after police say she slammed her car into a tree on Great Road.
The victim was trapped inside of her car for about 20 minutes and had to be cut free. She was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by a medical helicopter and later died from her injuries.
Rescue crews said Beretta was barely conscious when officials arrived.
Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
