TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) – A child was flown to the hospital via helicopter after being struck by a vehicle on Stevens Street Saturday.
Taunton fire officials said the incident happened at 15 Stevens Street a few minutes after 11:30 a.m., and a medical helicopter was called to take the three and a half year-old victim to Hasbro Hospital in Providence.
Police said that the girl came out of a house and saw her father across the street, then attempted to cross the street to get to him. She had just come out from behind a parked car when she was struck.
The driver of the car that struck her, a 24 year-old Taunton woman, stopped immediately. Police said she will not be facing any charges.
The girl had been moved to the front lawn of a home at that address by the time firefighters arrived; they say she was conscious but could not provide any other information on the extent of her injuries. She was taken to nearby Poole Street to be picked up by the helicopter and flown to the hospital.
