PD: Stabbing suspect found hiding in recycling container

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence man has been arrested and charged with a stabbing that took place in Pawtucket late Thursday night, according to the Pawtucket Police Dept.

Police responded to West Avenue in Pawtucket around 11 p.m. Thursday to find a victim who had been stabbed multiple times in the torso and back area. Police said the victim, who was identified as Tyrell Gadson, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and is listed in serious condition. The victim’s injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

Police said information gathered from witnesses led them to identify Richaud Wilhelm, 26, of Providence, as a suspect in the stabbing. Police say the victim was sharing an apartment with Wilhelm’s ex-girlfriend, and they say Wilhelm broke into the apartment, assaulted the woman and attacked the Gadson.

Wilhelm was arrested Friday morning. Police said an officer apprehended Wilhelm, and that Wilhelm immediately fled the scene. He was found shortly thereafter, reportedly “attempting to hide in a large recycling container on Forest Avenue.”

Wilhelm is charged with assault with a deadly weapon in a dwelling, domestic breaking and entering, domestic assault and domestic disorderly conduct.
