WaterFire Providence is ready to kick off Memorial Day weekend with the popular summer-time tradition.
Sunset is at 8:07 p.m. on Saturday, May 24 and the fires will be lit shortly after. This fire is sponsored by Bank of America and Brown Alumni Association, which is celebrating Brown University’s 250th Anniversary.
The WaterFire Arts Festival Plaza will be located on Washington Street from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. and will showcase some great local artwork and jewelry. The Starry Starry Night Installation will also shine brightly in Memorial Park. Attendees are encouraged to add their own light to the night by placing personal messages and a luminaria candle lantern in the park for a small donation.
WaterFire’s favorite characters are also back! The living statues will be in Memorial Park at the World War I monument.Ten31 Productions is returning with their interactive living statues and gargoyles in Memorial Park shortly after lighting. Artist and mime Michael Grando once again will grace the waters as the Phantom Boatman. He can found gliding up and down the river handing out carnations searching for his one true love.
Origami Guy Andrew Anselmo will also delight crowds near the RISD auditorium, and WaterFire Fire Dancers Liz Knight and Andrew Lindsay will dazzle the crowds at different times throughout the evening in the basin and near Memorial Park.
Eleven full fire dates are set for the 2014 season including May 24, June 14, June 28, July 12, July 26, August 9, August 23, September 27, October 11, and October 25.
