Crews respond to warehouse fire in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Crews in Providence responded to an abandoned warehouse for a fire Thursday morning.

Firefighters on the scene said it may have started on the third floor. While the fire is under control, crews battled mostly smoke when they arrived at 60 King Street around 8 a.m.

There’s no word on what may have caused the fire.

On Wednesday, a business in the warehouse, The Imperial Knife facility, received a $200,000 cleanup grant. The EPA designed them to provide communities with funding necessary to assess, clean up and redevelop contaminated properties, boost local economies and leverage jobs while protecting public health and the environment.

This location was a recipient. The Imperial Knife facility, located at 60 King Street, was awarded The funding is part of $67 million in EPA Brownfields investments awarded throughout the country.
