Sirens will blare during Port of Providence evacuation drill

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – If you hear sirens around the Port of Providence early Thursday morning, don’t worry: it was just a drill.

The Providence Fire and Police Departments, along with the Providence Emergency Management Agency, planned to participate in an annual evacuation drill of the commercial facilities located in the Port of Providence on Thursday.

The goal of the annual drills, according to a release from PEMA, is to provide each facility in the area with an opportunity to test their internal evacuation plans.

The drill was scheduled to begin around 10 a.m. and it is set to last for around an hour.
