EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Two Fall River men were arrested on drug charges after state police said they found a large amount of heroin during a traffic stop.
Rhode Island State Police said troopers pulled over a car on I-195 East in East Providence Wednesday for following too close and a seat belt violation. According to a news release, a state police K-9 unit also responded to the stop, and the dog detected something in the grass along the highway.
State police said the dog led troopers to a plastic bag which had more than 1,000 individual packets of heroin. Investigators believe the suspects threw the bag from the car after they were stopped.
Troopers arrested the driver, 30-year-old Keith Casper, and his passenger, 30-year-old Michael Fleck. Both men were arraigned and ordered held without bail at the ACI.
