NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A New Bedford man has been sentenced to prison after he was caught breaking into a city home.

Jeffrey Botelho, 36, of 1055 Cove Road, was sentenced to 3 and a half years behind bars on charges of larceny and breaking and entering.

According to New Bedford Police Detective Captain Steven Vicente, on June 6 officers responded to the area of Thompson and Lombard Streets for the report of two males going door to door acting suspiciously.

The officers then witnessed the two suspects exiting a home carrying electronic equipment. It was later determined they forced the rear door of the home open to get inside.
