Taunton man convicted of murder in 2009 drive-by shooting

 TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) – A Taunton mas has been convicted of first-degree murder.

According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, Thomas Jeffreys, 35, was found guilty of the drive-by shooting that killed 29-year-old Troy Pina in 2009.

After deliberating for almost 12 hours, a Superior Court jury convicted Jeffreys of first degree murder, three counts of armed assault with intent to murder, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of illegal possession of a firearm.

Jeffreys has been sentenced to a life in prison without parole.

He’s the second of three defendants to go to trial connected to Pina’s killing, and the second defendant to be convicted of first degree murder.
