WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Warwick’s City Council has put on hold a proposal to lease the Conimicut Point Lighthouse as an inn.
Mayor Scott Avedisian had supported the deal with the New England Lighthouse Tourism and Restoration Company, which had agreed to repair and maintain the lighthouse in return for a 15-year lease.
The council instead tabled the plan at a meeting last month and instructed the city’s planning department to put out a request for proposals.
Councilman Joseph Solomon tells the Providence Journal they want to make sure the city is getting the best deal possible.
Nick Korstad, a partner with New England Lighthouse Tourism and Restoration, says that company likely will submit its proposal as part of that process.
The planning department is scheduled to report to the council in September.
