PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Fire investigators have confirmed that a fire that broke out in a vacant building on Prairie Avenue was arson.

The fire broke out in the home at 432 Prairie Ave shortly before 10 p.m. last Friday. Fire officials told Eyewitness News that the fire appears to have started on the first floor of the vacant home and spread all the way up to the roof.

Seven firefighters were on the third floor when a ceiling collapsed, injuring several of them. The eighth suffered a hand laceration outside the home. All of the firefighters were released from the hospital by Saturday morning.

The occupied buildings on either side of the home did not suffer any damage, fire officials said.
