PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A former state representative has been found guilty by a jury on one count of unlawful appropriation.
Leo Medina was also found not guilty for embezzling and obtaining money under false pretenses.
Prosecutors say he pocketed $28,000 from a life insurance policy on a friend’s daughter, who died in 2007.
Medina served one term as a Democratic state representative from Providence. He lost his bid for a second term in 2012.
His bail was set at $10,000 with surety and was ordered to surrender his passport. He is due back in court on June 16.
