Newport man accused of trespassing

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP/WPRI) — A 26-year-old Newport man has been charged with trespassing after police say he forced his way into a woman’s apartment.

Police tell the Newport Daily News that Terry Hilson Jr. was arrested Saturday at the Festival Field apartment complex after they responded to a report of a fight.

Police say there was a no trespassing order barring Hilson from the apartment of the 29-year-old woman.

Hilson could not be reached for comment Monday. It was not immediately clear if he has hired an attorney.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Police initially charged Hilson with rape, but Lt. William Fitzgerald told Eyewitness News that charge was dropped after the woman recanted her story.
