NORTH SCITUATE, R.I. (WPRI) – Ponaganset High School science teacher David Moscarelli was named the 2015 Rhode Island Teacher of the Year in a surprise ceremony Monday.
Mr. Moscarelli’s entire 22-year teaching career has been spent at Ponaganset High.
“David Moscarelli is not only recognized as an excellent classroom teacher who sets high standards and provides his students with individual support, but he is also highly regarded as a technology leader at Ponaganset High School, “said Governor Lincoln Chafee.
Governor Chafee went on to say, “He has devoted his professional life to classroom teaching, and he will represent our state well as the 2015 Teacher of Year.”
Moscarelli is a Providence resident and 1992 graduate of the University of Rhode Island who also holds a master’s degree in biology from Brown University.
Moscarelli teaches alternative energy, biology, physical science, and AP environmental science.
He has even designed and taught two courses: animal behavior and ecosystems.
David Moscarelli now becomes a candidate for the 2015 National Teacher of the Year award.
