Providence’s 7th homicide victim ID’d

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Police have obtained an arrest warrant for a suspect in the capital city’s seventh homicide of 2014.

According to police, David Simmons, 32, was stabbed to death on Dartmouth Avenue early Monday evening. Simmons had just recently moved to Providence, police said.

Providence police have identified a suspect in the homicide and have a warrant out for his arrest. The suspect’s identity has not yet been released.

Eyewitness News was on scene Monday evening while police, with help from the fire department, searched the roof of a nearby restaurant for possible evidence.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Simmons’ death.
