BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) – Police are investigating after a bomb threat was called in to the manager of Rite Aid Pharmacy in Barrington.
According to police, a man with a heavy Middle Eastern accident told the store manager over the phone that there was a bomb on the roof, and that he needed ten pre-paid credit cards filled with $500 each.
Police immediately cleared the store of all employees and shoppers and Rhode Island State Police, as well as bomb squad officers, responded to the County Road location.
Officers, accompanied by trained dogs, scanned the area and did not find anything suspicious.
The phone number the caller used is serviced through the internet-based phone service Magic Jack. The call reportedly came from the Dallas, Texas area.
Surrounding businesses were also notified of the incident.
Police are continuing to investigate.
