TIVERTON, R.I. (WPRI) – Rescue crews rushed to the scene of a single-car accident after a vehicle went off the road and landed on its side.
The crash happened just before 11 a.m. near Crandall Road and Blueberry Road in Tiverton.
According to Capt. Patrick Jones, 82-year-old Harriette Meller from Little Compton was alert and conscious after the accident. She was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by medical helicopter.
Witness Cerina Andrade told Eyewitness News that rescue crews had to cut the roof and doors off the car to get the victim free.
“I was on my way to my parents house when we saw a car in the woods, we ran over my mother Barbara and I, and there was a woman coherent in the seat,” said Andrade, “There was a woman next door who was talking to her and asking her all kinds of questions, and she was telling us who to call and what phone calls to make.”
The condition of the victim is not known at this time.
