According to recent studies, 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. It’s a sobering statistic that serves as a reminder as to how prevalent the disease remains.
One local organization is looking to help cut down that number, with its third annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
Hattoy’s Nursery and Garden Center has been hosting the event for the past two years. In that time, the group has raised more than $200,000 for the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation and the Rhode Island Chapter of Pink Heals.
Gloria Gemma works through direct support with the help of events like this, while Pink Heals helps provide local families who are currently struggling with cancer.
Hattoy’s Nursery and Garden Center has been personally affected by cancer, and this is the organization’s way to support the many families in need.
This year, Breast Cancer Awareness Day will include a fun day of live music, raffles, food, plant sales, and breast cancer education.
Go to Breast Cancer Awareness Day at Hattoy’s Nursery and Garden Center on Saturday, June 21 (Rain date: Sunday, June 22).
