SWANSEA, Mass. (WPRI) — A Swansea man has been arrested on child rape charges, according to police.
Lawrence Lamphier, 69, of Swansea, was arrested at his home Monday. Lamphier was arraigned on Tuesday in Fall River District Court on two counts of rape of a child with force, and three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
Prosecutors allege the crimes took place at the suspect’s Swansea home, and that the victims were six and nine years old.
Lamphier’s attorney insists the claims are both false and motivated by money.
“Two of those children disclosed that they’d been sexually assaulted by the defendant while they were at his home,” said Lamphier’s attorney, “There’s some financial motivation, judge, we suspect, that the investigation will develop for bringing these allegations.”
He was held overnight at the Bristol County House of Correction on $75,000 bail. Lamphier was ordered not to have contact with children.
He is due back in court next month.
