PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – The former owner of a local gym that abruptly closed its doors earlier this year is now being ordered to undergo questioning at the attorney general’s office.
David Walker, the former owner of the Gold’s Gym locations in North Providence and Warwick, has been under fire since his North Providence customers woke up in in April and found that the gym had suddenly closed. In a sign posted to the building, Walker told the gym-goers they were free to use the Warwick location, but customers later found out Walker had sold the Warwick gym to somebody else.
The attorney general’s office said it has received more than 100 complains from North Providence members since the gym’s abrupt closing, many claiming they were charged fees that were not outlined in their original contracts with Gold’s Gym.
Investigators are looking into these claims. Walker was initially expected at the attorney general’s office at some point Friday to answer investigators’ questions, but his attorney requested a continuance.
He’s set to be at the attorney general’s office on Thursday, June 26.
