Police: Arrests made in capital city’s eighth homicide

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Three people have been arrested in connection with the beating death of a Providence man, police confirmed Friday.

Milton Lyles, 68, was found severely beaten on Broad Street in Providence back in May. He died due to his injuries last Thursday, and Providence police soon ruled his death a homicide.

Providence Police Maj. David Lapatin confirmed Jared Jackson, 20, Thomas Rose, 22, and David Durrett, 31, were each arrested in connection with Lyles’ death. Jackson and Rose are facing murder charges, while Durrett was charged with larceny.

Jackson and Rose were apprehended on Portland Street; Durrett, on Broad Street.

Lyles, who lived in Providence, was a registered sex offender with a criminal record dating back to the 1980s.
