NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — A Middletown man is now under arrest, after Newport police alleged he’s been selling prescription drugs illegally out of his work vehicle — a Coca-Cola delivery truck.
Officers watched John McKone, 46, meet a person they described as a known drug user in the parking lot of the RK Towne Center shopping plaza shortly after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a Newport police report. When the person entered the delivery truck’s passenger seat, police said the officers approached and saw McKone appear to throw something toward the vehicle’s floor.
Police said officers handcuffed McKone as a safety precaution, and one of the officers found several pills on the floor of the driver’s side. When an officer asked what the pills were, they say McKone told them they were oxycodone; that later matched an online identification database.
McKone faces charges of felony drug possession and distribution.
