PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Smoke could be seen coming from the Port of Providence late Monday morning as crews responded to a reported boat fire at the Port of Providence.

The call came in around 11:10 a.m. for reports of a 70-foot fishing vessel fully engulfed in flames.

According to Chief Clarence Cunha, a welding mishap started the fire.

Cunha said crews did use the department’s new foam pumper truck to help extinguish the flames.

He said no one was hurt in the fire.
