Suspects in fatal Providence beating face judge

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Three suspects in Providence’s eighth homicide of the year appeared in court Monday – two accused of murder, and the third accused of stealing from the victim.

Thomas Rose, 22, Jared Jackson, 20, and David Durrett, 31, are accused in the brutal assault of an elderly man on Broad Street that resulted in the victim’s death, according to city police.

Milton Lyles, 68, died from his injuries June 12 – nearly a month after he was found on the ground, badly beaten. An autopsy revealed he died from complications from head trauma.

Police confirmed the arrests of all three suspects last Friday.

Rose and Jackson were arraigned on first-degree murder charges in Providence District Court Monday, while Durrett faced a larceny charge.

All three are due back in court next month for parole violations.
