Police to use app for parade safety

BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — The Bristol Police Department will be using some new technology to enhance safety at the upcoming Fourth of July Parade.

Officials are encouraging those planning on attending the parade to download the free VizSAFE mobile app for their iPhones or Android phones. VizSAFE, a company based in Middletown, says its app helps those attending large events assist first responders.

People who download the app will be able to share video and pictures with other citizens, and emergency personnel.

This year, the app has been used at the Super Bowl, the Boston Marathon, and the Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
