Barrington police seek suspect in armed abduction

BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island State Police, Massachusetts State Police, and FBI investigators are actively searching for the suspect in an armed abduction that happened early Monday morning.

According to Barrington police, the attacker confronted a man at gunpoint in his driveway located near Barrington Beach around 7:30 on Monday morning. Police said the attacker forced the victim to drive him out of town in his own car, while he sat inside, armed with a gun.

As the victim drove on I-90 in Massachusetts, the suspect ordered him to stop the car and then fled into the woods. The victim was not harmed and reported the abduction to Massachusetts State Police immediately after the suspect took off. Police said there were “no demands made of the resident for money.”

The suspect is described by police as being possibly Hispanic, in his late 20s or 30s, and around 5’8” tall. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a camouflaged bandana covering his nose, dirty faded jeans, and had a dark Nike gym bag.

The victim told police the suspect spoke English, but used Spanish while on his cell phone.
