Cranston woman claims $2 million PowerBall prize

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A Cranston woman has come forward to collect the $2 million PowerBall prize she won during last Saturday’s drawing.

The winning ticket was purchased last week at the Stop & Shop on Ten Rod Road in North Kingstown. It matched the first five numbers, but not the PowerBall number.

The winner says she was at the market with her husband when he mentioned buying some lottery tickets.  She initially said they should not bother since they probably would not win, but she wound up buying a PowerBall quick pick anyway with the “Power Play” option.  That decision won her $2 million.

The woman tells the Rhode Island Lottery that the win comes right before her 49th wedding anniversary.  She was not sure how she would spend her newfound fortune.
