RI restaurants’ wine list recognized worldwide

Each year, Wine Spectator presents its restaurant wine list awards. This year six RI restaurants have been presented awards.

Since the early 1980s Wine Spectator has rated wine lists from around the country and world on interesting selections and how they pair with the menu.

Roughly 3,500 people submit their wine list for consideration. Awards are presented on a three glass scale. This year 800 lists worldwide were given the two glass award, six of these are from RI.

The Rhode Show welcomed these recipients and discussed what it means to have been awarded such an honor.

“This is something you work hard for. It shows you’re serious about wine, it shows you’re serious about your guest having a great time in your establishment,” said Jonathan Feiler from the Seasons at the Ocean House.

DSC_0007RI recipients of the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence include:

  • Matthew MacCartney of Jamestown Fish
  • Shawn Westhoven of The Mooring and other area restaurants
  • Brad Marthens of The Atlantic Inn
  • Jonathan Feiler of Season at the Ocean House

However, these restaurants won’t be able to sit comfortably for too long if they want to hold on to their title.

“Every year you have to resubmit, and they assess it again,” said MacCartney.
