Trio of suspects nabbed in East Providence break-ins

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — A Fall River couple and another man were arrested as suspects in a pair of burglaries in East Providence – and police believe they may be responsible for more crimes in neighboring Massachusetts.

Michael Oliveira, 40, Jennifer Oliveira, 38, and John Tomaszewski, 56, all of Fall River, were apprehended following a police chase Monday, according to East Providence Police Captain Richard Frazier.

A Pawtucket Avenue resident told police he came home just before noon to find two men inside his apartment and chased them out the back door. An eyewitness saw the two suspects get into a car driven by a woman near the Warren Avenue intersection and gave officers the license plate number.

They were later stopped by Massachusetts State Police on Route 24 in Fall River.

Cpt. Frazier said the car was towed back to East Providence, where investigators found items believed to have been taken during break-ins reported in Massachusetts. He said the suspects could be responsible for up to ten breaks between the two states.

Police could not show the items because the crimes remain under investigation.

All three suspects were charged with two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of larceny, and two counts of conspiracy to commit breaking and entering.

Cpt. Frazier said the two men have extensive criminal records with more than 30 arrests apiece.
