NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) — A Narragansett man remained in the hospital Wednesday after crashing his motorcycle on Boston Neck Road Tuesday night.

According to police, Jacob Clauson, 23, lost control and was thrown from his motorcycle – which then caught fire.

Emergency crews pulled him away from the burning wreck and rushed him to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

Prior to the crash, police said an officer – who knew Clauson to have a suspended license – spotted him at a red light. Clauson then revved the engine, lifted the front end of the motorcycle and took off at a high rate of speed, according to police.

An eyewitness told police Clauson tried to take a turn when he lost control and struck a curb and a stone wall on the side of the roadway.

Police said charges are pending against Clauson as the crash remains under investigation.

Anyone that witnessed the crash is asked to contact Lt. Vellone or Sgt. Prest of the Narragansett Police Department at (401) 789-1091.
