PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence police have confirmed that a young man was shot and killed early Saturday morning on River Avenue.
Major David Lapatin told Eyewitness News that 20 year-old Ty-shon Perry was sitting outside a home near the intersection of River Avenue and Allston Street shortly before 2 a.m. when someone approached on foot, shot him, and fled. Perry ran inside the home after being struck.
He was taken to the hospital by rescue personnel but died shortly after arriving.
Lapatin said the suspect fled on foot after the shooting, and that so far nobody has been arrested.
An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported the location of the shooting as River Avenue at Regent Avenue.
