Police: Two men arrested after motel knife fight

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Two men were taken into custody Monday after police said they attacked each other with knives at a New Bedford motel.

Asad Porter, 24, of Atlanta, and Derron James Trent, 21, of Kansas City, were arrested at the New Bedford Inn & Suites on Hathaway Road.

The two men got into a disagreement in the hallway at about 11 a.m. and both were wielding knives, according to police.

A motel worker said she was outside when several men ran out of a room with at least one large knife – and at one point one of the men jumped from a second-floor balcony.

An eyewitness told us her biggest concern was that children were playing nearby at the time.

Investigators do not yet know the cause of the scuffle, but police said both men are co-workers at a magazine subscription company.

Both men were charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. No injuries were reported.

An employee said that everything was back to normal at the motel after about an hour.
