A 15-year-old South Kingstown native is preparing to represent the Ocean State in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen pageant.
Grace Romanello won the title of Miss Rhode Island’s Outstanding Teen on May 10, and has been busy ever since promoting her platform through events around the state and preparing for the national stage.
Miss America’s Outstanding Teen, open to girls from ages 13 to 17, is the sister pageant to Miss America. At the national competition Grace will compete in interview, talent, evening wear, on-stage question, and sportswear. GPA and academic standing also factors in to 5% of the total score.
This year’s national pageant will have preliminary competition from July 29 – July 31, with the final night of competition set for August 2. Since the pageant was founded in 2005, it has made almost $5 million in scholarships available to teens across the country.
Grace plans to sing ‘Hit Me With A Hot Note’ during the talent portion of the competition, and will spend her year promoting her platform ‘It Takes a Team: Overcoming Body Image Issues and Eating Disorders’.
