PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A North Providence man accused of killing both of his parents pleaded not guilty to the heinous crime in court Wednesday morning.
Mark Yu, 37, was arraigned Wednesday on charges he murdered 60-year-old Young Yu and 61-year-old Yeon Yu at their North Providence home last July.
According to the police report, officers responded to the Noto Drive residence to check on the couple at the request of a relative and discovered the grisly scene. Their bludgeoned bodies were wrapped in bed sheets – one on the second floor, and one in the basement.
When police arrived, they found Yu locked in a bathroom.
A prosecutor said in court that the decomposition of the bodies indicated they had been dead for about two days. As a result, Yu was charged with two counts of murder and two counts of failure to report a death.
The medical examiner found that Yu’s mother and father died of blunt force trauma to the head. The motive for their murders has not yet been revealed.
