Police: Two men stabbed at New Bedford bar

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Two people were taken to area hospitals Wednesday afternoon after they were stabbed during an altercation at a New Bedford bar.

According to New Bedford Police Officer Robert George, an argument at Al’s Cafe on Belleville Avenue turned violent at about 2:45 p.m.

One man was stabbed in the stomach, while the second was stabbed in the arm. One was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and the other was taken to St. Luke’s, but the extent of their injuries is not yet known.

George said two suspects fled the scene, but was unsure if it was on foot or by car.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

It’s not yet clear what caused the argument that led to the violence.
