Mud runs, 5K road races, and obstacle courses are so much fun, but some of those runs may promise more than they deliver.
Most of the runs give the participant exactly what they expect – an inexpensive entry fee and a chance to challenge yourself. But, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) has received numerous complaints about various fun runs that have been canceled with short notice and often times with no refunds.
A race in Cleveland was recently canceled with just four days’ notice, and all participants got were an email saying a refund would not be provided.
Before signing up for a fun run, Problem Solver Susan Hogan warns to check their reputation with the BBB. The group received 90 complaints so far against a company that was holding a 5K foam fest event, but the race website says it ceased operations as of July 17.
A lot of these races you sign up for months in advance, so if you signed up and the race is in August, you will need to file a complaint and get on the list with the BBB.
