PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — New charges have been brought against one of two suspects in the January 2012 murder of a Cranston man.
A grand jury handed out an indictment Thursday charging Carlos Rios with murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon.
Investigators said Rios and another man, Carlos Reyes-Sanchez, attacked and beat 49-year-old Victor Baez outside of his Third Avenue home, then ran him over with their car. Baez later died from his injuries on May 26.
Reyes-Sanchez, 30, was apprehended two years later in Florida and arraigned on charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy.
Rios, 39, was arrested in June on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder and was ordered held without bail.
He’s scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges August 7.
