PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Providence police are investigating a reported violent home invasion in which a masked suspect shot a 19-year-old resident in the stomach and a dog in the head.
The alleged home invasion occurred on Plainfield Street in Providence early Wednesday afternoon. According to police, a masked intruder forced his way into a home, kicked in a bedroom door and immediately shot and killed a pit bull.
Police said the suspect then attacked the dog’s owner, an unidentified 19-year-old man, shooting him once in the stomach and once in the leg.
The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. The dog died at the scene.
The victim said his alleged attacker stole around $400 in cash from the residence. Police said they found marijuana plants and packaging materials in the home.
As of 9 p.m., no arrests had been made in the case.
