Cumberland Little Leaguers head to regionals

The Little Leaguers from Cumberland made their way to regionals in Bristol, Conn.

CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WPRI) — The Cumberland American Little League team is getting ready to compete for a spot in the Little League World Series.

The Cumberland Little Leaguers departed from Bentley Field Thursday morning to represent Rhode Island in the New England Regions in Bristol, Conn.  The team was guided to the Rhode Island-Connecticut state line by a police escort.

Cumberland American advanced to the regionals by winning the Rhode Island state tournament over Cranston Western last week.

The winner of the New England Regional will earn a spot in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn.

The team is hoping to follow in the footsteps of the 2011 Cumberland American squad, which won the New England Regional and advanced to the Little League World Series
