Fisherman swept away by waves, dies

JAMESTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — The body of a man was pulled from the water at Beavertail State Park in Jamestown on Wednesday morning, police confirmed to Eyewitness News.

According to Jamestown police, a 58-year-old fisherman from Massachusetts was on the rocks on the east side of the island when he lost his footing, fell from the rocks, and was swept away by the waves.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released. He was with a friend when the incident happened, police said.

His body was recovered and removed from the rocky shoreline and is being transported by the medical examiner.
