PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A man arrested following an altercation on the set of a new Woody Allen movie appeared in a Providence courtroom on Wednesday.
Mark Spiridakis did not enter a plea during his court appearance on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and simple assault.
Only Eyewitness News cameras captured Providence police taking suspect Spiridakis into custody after he allegedly assaulted Woody Allen’s security guards.
The security guards reported that a man, who was later identified as Spiridakis, came to the set in downtown Providence and began asking ‘weird questions’ about the stars of the film. The man then became agitated and grabbed one security officer before hitting another with a chair and lunch bucket, a guard said.
Two additional guards and a group of bystanders managed to tackle him to the ground. Spiridakis was questioned by Providence police and then arrested on Memorial Boulevard.
He was brought to Rhode Island Hospital by ambulance after suffering a head injury in the scuffle.
After his court appearance, he was transferred back to the hospital to continue receiving care.
