SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — A rabid fox who attacked two people Wednesday afternoon has been located and destroyed, South Kingstown police confirmed.

According to police, the fox traveled from Albro Lane, near Rt. 1/Old Tower Hill Road, to the YMCA on Broad Rock Road.

South Kingstown resident Marjorie Fagre came face to face with that fox late Wednesday, and said she knew something wasn’t right and called police.

“He looked like he was soaking wet and he was growling and kept trying to attack the tires on the truck and the car. So definitely there was something wrong with it,” she said.

The fox eventually took off and meandered through the wooded area for about one mile until reaching the YMCA. It was there that the YMCA confirmed two people were attacked.

After it was euthanized, the animal’s body was turned over to the Rhode Island Department of Health where it is being tested.

If you came in contact with the animal, you can contact South Kingstown Police Department at 401-783-3321.
