CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) – A child with physical disabilities was reunited with her wheelchair Friday night, and a Cranston man was arrested and charged with stealing it.
The Cranston Police Department said they received a report from a physically handicapped child’s family claiming that the child’s wheelchair was missing from the front porch of their Webster Avenue home. After investigating, police said they learned the wheelchair was sold for scrap at Intercity Recycling Services.
Police said Richard Rebello was the man who sold the wheelchair to the recycling establishment.
The wheelchair was recovered by police, and police said it was in good condition.
Rebello was arrested and charged with receiving stolen goods worth more than $1,500 – a felony. If convicted, Rebello faces up to 10 years in prison.
