This week we’re ‘On the Rhode’ to some of Southern New England’s best beaches to check out some summer fun before heading back to school.
On Monday, Rhode Show Co-Host Brendan Kirby hit the sand at Misquamicut Beach in Westerly, to kick off the week at a beautiful spot that always draws in New Englanders.
Like many of Rhode Island’s beaches, Misquamicut Beach is a great place for fun in the sun.
“This is the state’s largest beach,” said Lisa Konicki of the Westerly Chamber of Commerce.“It’s a great family atmosphere with some wonderful amenities here.”
Westerly was the Rhode Island town that was hit hardest by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Since the hurricane left a path of destruction across the area, businesses have been coming together to rebuild. About 25 Westerly businesses were devastated and some were completely washed out to sea.
“Due to a lot of hard work, compassion by the community, and generous sponsorships, the Chamber of Commerce raised $428,000 and provided grants to every one of these businesses,” said Konicki.
