Children’s water bottles, cribs recalled this week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Several products that can pose dangers to your kids are included in this week’s recalls.

We’ve reported in the past on the dangers of toys with high-powered magnetic balls after numerous children died or were seriously injured after ingesting them. Another company that manufactures a similar product has announced a massive recall after getting pressure from the federal government.

Star Networks USA is recalling “Magnicubes” due to ingesting hazards, and the firm has also settled a lawsuit with the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Since 2009, the CPSC has received a number of reports of ingestion involving the small magnets, many of which involved surgery.

The recall is intended to protect children and teens from the risk of injury when more than one magnet is ingested. The company will provide consumers with a full refund.

Brita is recalling more than 240,000 children’s water bottles due to laceration hazards. The lid can break into pieces with sharp points. Brita said they’ve received 35 reports of the lids breaking. Consumers should take them away from their children immediately and contact Brita for a postage-paid shipping package to return the bottles for a full refund.

Bexco is recalling Franklin & Ben Mason 4-in-1 convertible cribs due to fall and entrapment hazards. The crib front can separate from the side panels and create a hazardous gap that can allow a child to fall out or become trapped between the front and side panels. The company received 14 reports of this happening. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers can contact the company for a free repair kit and are being asked to find a safer sleeping alternative for their baby.
