SWANSEA, Mass. (WPRI) — A group of over 100 friends and family gathered at the town beach in Swansea to remember 23-year-old Melissa White, who was killed by a gunshot wound last weekend.
At dusk on Wednesday, the large crowed gathered at the beach, a spot many say Melissa would often go to growing up. While releasing balloons into the night sky, the group of friends and family remembered the 23-year-old and the good times they had shared.
“She was a beautiful girl, she loved life, she was very good in athletics and we miss her loss,” said Melissa’s uncle Lance Trottier.
According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, Timothy Levesque, 56, shot and killed Melissa on Ocean Grove Avenue after a dispute between two groups of men. Levesque’s attorney argued that the former correctional officer shot and killed Melissa in self defense because she came after him with a crowbar.
Melissa will be laid to rest on Thursday and her family is now asking for justice.
“I’m still in shock, I’m still not right.” said the victim’s mother Melissa Trottier. “But, I love her so much, I know she is in heaven.”
Levesque is facing charges of murder and assault and battery. He was ordered held without bail.
