WARREN, R.I. (WPRI) — Police in Warren are working to get to the bottom of a costly case of vandalism at Kickemuit Middle School’s athletic track.
A Department of Public Works employee discovered the damage when he arrived for work Tuesday, just one day before the start of school. The department has since been working to clean up the mess by painting over the graffiti at the town-owned property.
“It’s just unfortunate that you have a brand new track like this and it gets ruined,” said Richard Jiacovelli, who discovered the vandalism. “We’re masking all the lines off and trying to match the color to get rid of the graffiti and some of the language that was here and pictures and whatnot.”
According to the police report obtained by Eyewitness News, the bathroom and concession stand were also graffitied with specific names and obscene messages. Police found several five-gallon buckets of paint and an empty spray paint can inside the bathroom.
It’s not yet clear how much the repairs will cost.
Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call the Warren Police Department at (401) 245-1311.
