Pair wanted for East Greenwich jewelry heist

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WPRI) — Police are seeking the public’s help identifying two suspects wanted for a jewelry theft in East Greenwich.

The suspects are accused of swiping four diamond rings from Wood Jewelers on Main Street last week, and police believe they may have been involved in similar crimes elsewhere.

According to police, one man ordered an item to be picked up later. When he returned, he reached over the counter while the clerk was distracted and grabbed a display containing the four rings, valued at approximately $11,000.

The first suspect is described at a balding white man, age 45-55, with glasses, a medium build, and a soft cast on his right foot.  He identified himself as “Steve” and said he had recently had foot surgery at Miriam Hospital.

The second suspect was seen sitting outside the store. Police say he appears to be a white man in his 50s.
